Well, it’s been a busy few weeks. In addition to being a new dad and working full time, I’ve been helping get our church’s new website up and running. We decided to switch from a custom hosting option to using WordPress for our church’s website – SpringhouseSmyrna.com.
As many of you know, WordPress is a killer system for running a blog. But it’s such a powerful content management system, it can drive powerful websites, too.
So, for the past few weeks, I’ve been working alongside Scott Asher (@epecho) to migrate the content from the old website and set up the new site. Even though it’s still a work in progress, I’m pretty excited because I think WordPress is such a great website infrastructure.
Getting Started
Pastor Ronnie Meek (@RAM1950)selected a premium WordPress template from Organic Themes, which has some very good features built right into it. One of the things I like best about that theme is its built in rotating flash section for featured articles. Overall, I think I like it better than any other WordPress theme I’ve used.
We’re certainly not done – there’s plenty more work to be done in making sure we’re making the very best use of the website. We want to make sure that the most important information is clear easily-accessible. In fact, both Scott and I are now working with Steve Grossman (@stevegrossman) to help design our overall communication strategy and to begin bringing some real structure to the website.
Why Not Visit?
So…why not hop on over to the new website and check it out? Let me know what you like about it. What you don’t like about it. And, maybe even what you think belongs on a church’s website that we’re missing.
Looks great…clean and crisp. Love the photos…
Thank you. I wish I could take credit for the photos. The real artists took them – we just uploaded them.
The rotating sideshow is pretty awesome. I was glad to have seen that that can be done.
