Have you spent any time with the Bible today? Any time in prayer?
If not, consider the short passage below. And as you do, ask yourself these questions:
- Do I identify with anybody in the story?
- What is my response to God in action?
- What is my response to God in prayer?
- Is there somebody I can share this with?
Luke 3:4-14 (NIV)
As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:
“A voice of one calling in the desert,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight,
the rough ways smooth. And all mankind will see God’s salvation.

Almighty God, as we hurry through the season of Advent, slow us down to remind us of the grace given us through the birth of your son. Startle us to repentance when repentance is needed so that we, like those who came to John, might be awakened from our spiritual slumber. Grant that our lives be so infused with your presence and a sense of your glory that we, the Church, in the same manner as John, call out as a voice from the wilderness to prepare the way of the Lord as we eagerly await Christ's return. And that we might have the wisdom to answer those who ask us “What, then, should we do?”
